LM-80-08

What is it?
The LM-80-08 specification is the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) approved standard for measuring lumen maintenance of LED light sources. The testing is performed at the component level and applies to the LED package, array, or module alone and not a complete system. The standard does not provide guidance for extrapolation of testing results.

Who can perform testing?
Testing of the LM-80-08 should be performed by EPA Recognized Laboratories for the category of product tested as only reports from EPA recognized laboratories meet the standard set by the Department of Energy (DOE). This standard is used by the DOE for the ENERGY STAR program qualification and lighting facts advocate program. All Hyperikon product testing is performed in accordance with the LM-80-08 Specification in EPA recognized laboratories and reports are available upon request.

What does it provide?

The testing report issued by EPA recognized laboratories is delivered in a standard format and will provide the following information:
• Luminous flux for a given current over a 6,000 hours period with interval measurements
• Luminous flux measurements for 3 different LED case temperatures: 55ºC, 85ºC and a third temperature to be selected by manufacturer
• Lumen maintenance of chromaticity shifts over the measured period

TM-21-11

What is it?
The ISTMT is used to measure the LED source case temperature within the LED system (luminaire or lamp). Quite simply, it measures the temperature of the LED within the luminaire. To achieve an accurate measurement, the test must be performed according to the temperature measurement point (TMP) indicated by the LED package manufacturer.

Who can perform testing?
The ISTMT should be performed by OSHA approved NRTLs, DOE CALiPER Recognized or UL Data Acceptance Program laboratories. It may be performed at the same time as LM-79-08. All Hyperikon products go through the ISTMT in an EPA recognized laboratory and reports are available upon request.

What does it provide?

Once the ISTMT has been determined, we validate that the temperature of the luminaire is within the temperature identified by the LM-80-08 LED source report. The ISTMT is then used as the basis for lifetime interpolation either based on TM-21-11 or other method.
